Lyon Health Handbook

Early maker project

Project description

Emlyon 2020

Many international students do not know how to deal with medical problems when they first come to France. We aim to provide accurate and comprehensive French medical information, so we collected and translated official news published by the French government, and created a Health Handbook, combined with personal experience and practical knowledge. We also published articles in different Chinese social media platforms. The topics include medical insurance, reimbursement, family doctors, government policy for Covid-19 and other medical knowledge for students. During this special period, we hope to provide everyone the warmest and most reliable help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers

What is Sécurité Sociale?

Sécurité Sociale is a compulsory insurance that covers basic medical services in daily life, including prescribing medicines, general consulting, hospitalizations, etc.

For students under 28 years old, we must go through the insurance procedures for school registration. According to the new regulations, when registering schools, students must provide social security payment certificate or certificate of exemption, which is CVEC.

How to Reimburse?

First of all, if we have Carte Vitale, it would be very convenient. We can directly simplify the reimbursement procedures with this card when we see a doctor and buy medicine. Most clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies in France are connected to the CPAM. Our information can be directly identified through our Carte Vitale. In some places, we need pay first, and the reimbursed amount will be credited to our bank account within a week. In some places, we only need to pay the fee after reimbursement.

What is Mutuelle?

This is an insurance company’s product that can be reimbursed for parts other than social security basic social security, especially for high-cost medical items such as dentistry and ophthalmology. A higher reimbursement ratio can be obtained. Different companies have different packages. Students can choose whether to purchase supplementary insurance packages according to their own situation.

Why I need a family doctor?

Each Social Security participant is required to declare an attending physician (Déclaration de médecin traitant), which is often referred to as a family doctor, in order to obtain a normal reimbursement at the time of diagnosis and treatment.

How to apply for Ameli?

This is a website specifically for foreign students to register for medical insurance. It is only the first step to obtain French medical insurance. We must first register on this website and get the official medical insurance number before going to the Ameli official website to register for an official account.

What is Complémentaire santé solidaire?

Complémentaire santé solidaire, formerly CMU, is a free supplementary medical insurance for low-income people. It is equivalent to a free Mutuelle provided by the French Medical Insurance Agency. It covers many aspects, such as the demand of seeing a dentist, buying a glass, and transportation etc.
